SCHOOL POLICY STATEMENT
CLASSROOM REQUIREMENTS:
Thank you for choosing Central Maine Driving Academy for your driver education. The classes run for three and one half weeks, meeting two or three consecutive days each week. (A class schedule will be given to each student on the first day of class). Classroom hours are 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the exception of the first class which begins at 4:30 p.m. A parent will need to accompany the student for the first hour of this first class, (4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.), to fill out the necessary registration forms.
Students must attend each class to complete the course. If a class is missed, it must be made up during our next course. The entire course is required to be completed within 6 months or it must be repeated. A written test will be given on the last day of class. Satisfactory completion requires a grade of 80% or better to meet the minimum standards set by the State of Maine. If a student is unable to pass the test, he or she will be given an opportunity to retake the exam at a later date. Quizzes will be given throughout the course to help students gain a better understanding of the material being covered.
Textbooks and quiz booklets will be issued to each student for classroom use only and must be returned in the same condition. These books may not be taken home.
The use of cellular phones, pagers, ipods, (and other such devices), violence, and profanity is prohibited. Also prohibited is smoking, before, during, or after class, on, or anywhere near the school premises where students can be associated with the school.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:
Ten hours of supervised, practical driving experience must be completed as part of the permit requiremetents set by the Secretary of State. Drives are scheduled on days students are not in class. Five, two hour drives will be scheduled throughout the course beginning as early as the first week. Scheduling will be based on availability and convenient times for both student and instructor.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT:
Parental Involvement is now required by the Secretary of State. A parent or legal guardian must spend the last 30 minutes of behind-the-wheel instruction in the vehicle with the student and the instructor. This requirement does not apply to students 18 years of age or older.
